SERVING INDIVIDUALS AND COUPLES

Hi, I’m so happy you’re here. I’m Dr. Arroyo-Carrion.

BUT YOU CAN CALL ME DR. A

I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and online trauma therapist in Florida. I specialize in treating trauma-related diagnoses (i.e., PTSD).

Working with individuals and couples with trauma is near and dear to my heart. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, where I had the opportunity to work with diverse populations that had a commonality, the experience of trauma. Having grown up on a small Island, I was exposed to clients who had experienced trauma from exposure to hurricanes, accidents, and military and combat trauma. These experiences made me want to help individuals who have been through challenging life events and motivated me to become a therapist specializing in treating PTSD.

  • Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, and state and VA hospitals which have equipped me with the necessary tools and knowledge to treat trauma and PTSD with empathy, care, and evidenced-based therapies. I have worked extensively with individuals with PTSD and co-occurring disorders such as GAD, OCD, panic disorder, and depression.

I started my private practice because I observed a lack of accessible quality trauma therapy for non-military individuals. Many therapists lack broad training in trauma treatment. That is why I have spent so much time and effort training in therapies that have been thoroughly researched and obtained positive outcomes.

After talking to clients and their families and hearing their frustration with accessing quality care, I decided to start my own practice specializing in trauma. My goal is to make treatment accessible for individuals who do not have military or VA affiliations. Let’s work together to heal your PTSD so you can reclaim your life again!

If you are seeking to heal from traumatic events, I can help you.

Therapist Specializing in the Treatment of PTSD

My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I have been trained on 16 different types of therapy for treating trauma and its comorbidities. My depth of knowledge regarding treating trauma and PTSD is what truly sets me apart from other therapists. I focus on providing evidence-based and quality psychotherapy services that are time-limited.

I know we can find a treatment plan that will fit your unique needs.

You don’t have to be a soldier or serviceperson to have experienced trauma. Trauma comes in many forms. Whether you’ve experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse/assault or date rape, intimate partner violence, natural disasters, accidents, childhood trauma or combat/military trauma, PTSD takes a toll on your mind, body, and spirit. When you work with a therapist who specializes in PTSD, you can feel confident that your safety will be prioritized. Your boundaries will be respected. And your autonomy will be preserved.

If you’re worried about “losing it” in session, know that I’ve got your back. Together we will work on strengthening your emotional regulation, developing coping skills, and reducing triggers. If you have experienced trauma, I can help you cultivate safety and regain control over your life through psychoeducation, evidenced-based therapies, and compassion.

As an online trauma therapist, I prioritize creating a safe,
supportive, and healing environment.

You’ve been through a lot.

And it takes courage to seek out professional help.

Starting psychotherapy services can be a daunting process. But I’m glad you are considering prioritizing your mental health. Whether you’re just beginning your wellness journey or you are continuing your recovery from trauma and PTSD, you are welcome here.

My practice is based on the recovery model — a holistic, person-centered approach designed to partner with you in your healing process.

The therapeutic relationship is vital to our work together. I always keep in mind that everyone has a different background, different goals, and different presenting difficulties. Psychotherapy is not one-size-fits-all, and you should work with a therapist you feel comfortable with. I care deeply about hearing your individual story and will take the time to get to know your unique history and background.

PTSD is like a puzzle, and all of the symptoms you’re experiencing right now are pieces to that puzzle. Together we can identify all of the pieces and make sense of the puzzle, so you can take control of your life back.

Here’s How it Trauma Therapy Works:

Therapy Services | Reflection Psychology | Trauma Therapy

Our first few sessions are focused on building the therapeutic relationship; in other words, we will get to know each other. We will discuss your symptoms so I can understand how the trauma has negatively impacted your life.
I utilize evidence-based therapies and an empathetic approach so you do not become retraumatized in the therapeutic process. I will ask you how you prefer to learn (by reading a book? Doing more hands-on work?) and provide psychoeducation on what PTSD is as I get to know the role it has played in your life. Some of my clients prefer having homework assigned, some would rather do assignments in session. We will collaborate on choosing the path that best meets your needs.

You may have heard of CBT. One of its main tenets is identifying your thoughts and their impact on your mood and behavior. You could be engaging in assumptions because of the trauma that are contributing to a decline in your quality of life. But before unpacking your thoughts and behaviors, it’s important we establish a sense of safety and trust.

I take the time to get to know each of my clients so you feel comfortable, seen, and heard. Our work together is built upon trust, safety, and empowerment. Even in time-limited settings, it’s important that we take our time and collaborate in the healing process. I consider you my partner in selecting the right treatment plan for you.

Whether you’re struggling with self-esteem, a challenging romantic relationship, burnout, stress, achieving work-life balance, or adjusting to life transitions, our sessions will be focused on helping you reach your full potential.

Whether you’re an individual or a couple seeking to heal their trauma, therapy can help.

As an online trauma therapist, I offer a safe
and respectful space

for you to heal without fear of judgment or retraumatization.
